And once the goals are set, the work begins! My goals this year include:
- Reaching a goal weight. Somehow while I was walking in Spain I lost a fair bit of weight, but then I found it all again, plus more! Go figure!
- Working on my business. I want to help a lot of people start their own business and earn income for their families. My helping others will help myself as well. Kind of nice that one gets ahead by making other people’s lives better. If you would like help growing a new income stream, earning tax benefits, and profiting when people around the world go shopping, maybe I can help you! Click here for how to EARN MONEY!
- Renovating my kitchen. This is WAY overdue! I have been putting it off for YEARS! I still have the original ugly linoleum and the original harvest gold stove. So if you know anyone who does renovations, or have had a good experience with a reno (or a bad one, I can learn from that also), I would love to chat!
Yes, I know these goals aren’t in the “SMART” format, you know: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant (or Rewarding), Time-bound. I have done this work as well, but don’t want to get too specific and boring here. I recently read about “DUMB” goals too, and rather like that. It stands for Dream Driven, Uplifting, Method-friendly, and Behaviour Driven. I kind of like it. What do you think? This is from Brendan Burchard, and you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/54aFTZ9POw4?list=PLiqRgMWh6qlx6HeNm9jHOFWoS3Na0rIP9 .
So why share my goals? Sometimes I think it is powerful to share, to put it out there. Maybe it helps with accountability – feel free to ask me how those goals are coming along. Maybe my goals can help your goals (or vice versa). That might sound a bit strange, but I believe we can all help each other. Maybe not directly, but sharing an idea, making an introduction, giving some feedback, maybe some seemingly small and insignificant act. Here is one of my favourite quotes:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back — concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.“
This quote has been attributed to Goethe, but may actually be written by William Hutchinson Murray. Either way it is great. I love the line about genius, power and magic. I do believe setting goals and then committing to achieving them is very powerful. A friend of mine named her team “The Goal Getters”, which I thought was brilliant. Almost everyone “sets” goals, but how many people go “get” their goals?
Happy New Year and Happy Goal Getting!!
